NTSB Report on East Palestine Train Derailment

Senator JD Vance (R-OH) released a statement regarding the National Transportation Safety Board's (NTSB) findings on the recent train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio.

The NTSB released its preliminary report on February 23, 2023, which concluded that a faulty wheel bearing caused the derailment.

Vance expressed his concern for the community and called for accountability.

In his statement, Vance said, "I am deeply concerned about the findings of the NTSB's preliminary report on the East Palestine train derailment."

"This incident is a reminder of the importance of safety in our transportation system, and I am committed to working with my colleagues in the Senate to ensure that such a tragedy never happens again."

The bill, S. 434, the East Palestine Health Monitoring and Testing Act, would provide $35 million for health testing and monitoring for residents affected by the derailment.

The bill has passed the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.

House Companion Bill

A companion bill, H.R. 1374, has been introduced in the House of Representatives by Representative Marcy Kaptur (D-OH).
