Breakthrough for Prevention of Mosquito-Borne Disease

Summary of the News:

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has recommended approval of a new vaccine for the prevention of dengue fever, a mosquito-borne disease that can cause severe illness and even death. The vaccine, called Dengue Tetravalent Vaccine (live attenuated, Takeda), is the first and only vaccine approved in the EU to protect against all four serotypes of the dengue virus.

Dengue fever is a major public health concern, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. The disease can cause a range of symptoms, including fever, headache, muscle pain, and nausea. In severe cases, dengue fever can lead to hemorrhagic fever, organ failure, and death.
