Baldwin IV of Jerusalem, known as the "Leper King," reigned over the Kingdom of Jerusalem from 1174 to 1185. Born in 1161, he was diagnosed with leprosy at the age of nine. Despite his debilitating disease, Baldwin IV proved to be an exceptional military commander and a compassionate ruler.

A Worthy Challenge to Saladin

Baldwin IV's reign was marked by constant warfare against the Muslim forces led by Sultan Saladin. Despite his physical limitations, Baldwin IV led his troops to numerous victories, including the Battle of Montgisard in 1177. His military prowess earned him the respect and admiration of both Christians and Muslims.

A Tragic End

Baldwin IV's life was cut short by leprosy. He died in 1185 at the age of 24, leaving behind a legacy of courage and inspiration. His reign is remembered as a time of both adversity and triumph, a testament to the human spirit's ability to overcome even the most challenging circumstances.
